Designer vs Engineer

I never worked with a structural designer before, only knew from nz office that the role of designer is to do up the structural layout/drawing (probably with some ideas from engr first) but the designer dun do the cals........ so for a v small project, a designer looks pretty redundant to me!

There's a lady asian 'designer' in the office who has sufficient qualifications to b an engr but she prefers to b a designer instead. Back today from her 3 weeks leave n some days of MC, she discovered her engr have no time to start on a design she left behind. While I seem 'new n not busy', she steadily came to me n told me to do the work instead since it's not her scope to do so.

She really got the nerve to shoot arrow at me without authorisation! well, I tried not to tell her off (heh!) n redirected her aimless arrow to my superior who agree the original engr shld continue with the work. She beta not cross my path again, or else....... dunno how to respect those who wanna be boss but dun dare to take up responsibility within her capacity!

Every Nite Affair

so proud of myself that I been cooking dinner every nite....... a good fren bought me 3 cook books!! heh, she know me so well..... but I still too occupied with accommodation n car that I haven't tried anything from the cook books.....

Was excited to view an apartment which I like this evening but agent didn't turn up....... din on her hp, din reply my voice messages, sigh........ this apartment location is the most ideal, think I would rent it straightaway if everything ok!

viewing another apartment tmw, only 2 weeks left to get myself accommodation, sigh.......

Car???

After first day at work, am really thinking of getting a car....... it's damn cold standing along the streets waiting for bus........ but I din bargain this in my expenses so I will need to lessen my budget for an apartment if I get a car....... It's possible to buy a 2nd hand car under $10k but parking in the city cost about $60/week n I v lazy to drive, find carpark lot, park car n navigate in the city...... sigh.....

Tmw meeting a colleague to go to site for 2 days, colleague suggest I take early buses to meet him first but I think I beta take a cab...... almost got fever juz tdy with all those chilly winds (n it's not winter yet!), beta not take chances......

weirdoes in the library

mths ago, while I was reading in a NZ library, a young blond sat on the couch next to me with a book in her hand. Minutes later, she started asking me wat I was reading, whether is it good, etc..... but not concentrating on the book in her hand.

today I was reading structural design book in auck library, a malaysian uncle (without any book with him) suddenly approached me n start asking where i m from, wat i was reading, wat was on the cover of the book, whether i have family or frens in NZ........

watz wrong wif this pple?? library issit where pple read books?? I'll soon reach my limit n tell these pple to get lost!!

Unpredictable.....

it was raining this morning so had myself dressed in water-resistant wear to go out. (It's dreadful to get wet in NZ n get blown by cold winds!)

minute after I'm done, the sun appeared like no rain had fallen earlier...... then gotta change to summer wear with wind breaker......

while on the streets, rain come n go like whenever I cross a street........ #&@^@$%%@#! so unpredictable!

a colleague told me if an 'intruder' went into a NZ home through an open window, he's not offending since home owner left window open.

however, if the owner 'attacks' the intruder, owner will be prosecuted!

think OZ law is oso the same.......

Rainy days are often in Auck, esp during winter but it seems v few carry umbrella!! probably umbrella can bend easier in frequent strong winds.....

For the 3rd time I encountered expired products being sold in big or small supermkts.....

Mths ago, I found an expired milo being sold in a supermkt in South Island, they only remove it when I ask for non-expired ones.

On 1st day of arrival, I bought an expired sunblock from a pharmacy in a supermkt in auck, had it refunded the next day.

Tdy, I bought an expired mineral water from an asian supermkt...... do I have to check mineral water too??

ya, b careful when u buy anything in NZ!

Apartment Hunt #1

Viewed to 2 studio apartments tdy.

Apartment ST is quite nice, relatively new, feels airtight (impt to keep warm in and cold out!), near Auck Uni, rather quiet area, got relatively big balcony, entrance and floor security.

Apartment SO has Auck Harbour view at 4th sty (so anyone in ships can c the room and anything inside if curtains not drawn!), bigger balcony than units above (means rubbish bin for units above!) , furnished with single bed and sofa bed (ideal!), entrance and floor security, much more expensive than Aparment ST.

both above are near a big supermkt, an asian supermkt and bus route to office.

tmw got one more to view in the suburbs.......

Hotel.... think the best accommodation I will ever have!

went to nz office yesterday, looks empty cuz many on site, table looks clean, colleagues looks friendly...... well I'll only know when I start work next Tues (27/10 is NZ Labour Day holiday)

Colleagues suggest I beta get a car but I dun mind taking bus ley..... c how.

Arrival

ok, finally got this blog set up!

was half awake upon arrival on 20/10 so was v blur.... lucky got colleague to bring me to hotel, then to supermkt, paid for 1st $60 of my purchases, then drop me back at hotel..... nice right?

I've packed, unpacked, packed, unpacked..... alot this year. Trying to minimise unpacking here since I gotta pack again 1 mth later when I get another accommodation..... sianz!
