0.95

colleague say it is acceptable in NZ that the ratio of structure capacity to structural loading to b min. 0.95.

this means it is acceptable in NZ for a structure to be structurally inadequate by 5%.

eg. if the load on structure is 100 ton, it is ok if the structure capacity is only 95 ton.

WOW! n NZ structures gotta withstand earthquakes somemore!

I tried to b v layman liao!

means if a 100kg man stand on a floor designed in NZ, this floor could have been designed to carry a 95kg man only.....

means can underdesign by 5% lah!

if can allow for 5% discount, tests must already be carried out to substantiate this claim OR other criteria must be factored up.
